License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: Current BLS, ACLS certification; certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred. Must-Have: Ability to provide care for patients of various ages and cultural backgrounds. Description: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures. This role works collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The RN acts as a patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned. He/she may be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. The RN is responsible to the Unit Nurse Manager or RN Team Leader. Essential Job Functions: Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Administer medications as ordered, including anticoagulants, vasoactive agents, contrast, and emergency drugs. Maintain sterile technique and assist with procedures as needed. Act as a patient advocate and anticipate the needs of the interventionalist. Recognize and respond rapidly to complications such as arrhythmia, bleeding, reaction to contrast, stroke alerts, and cardiac arrest. Collaboration on contrast allergy management is essential. Work with radiology technicians and physicians to address contrast allergies or sensitivities. Participate in pre-procedure discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents. Ensure allergy considerations are communicated effectively during the timeout. When assigned monitoring for moderate sedation, engage only in tasks that do not compromise continual patient assessment. Verify the ASA classification and consult anesthesia for high ASA scores. Provide moderate sedation per protocol and monitor vital signs and hemodynamics. Intervene appropriately for any complications that arise. When assigned as a scrub technologist, use sterile techniques to assist physicians during interventional procedures. Prepare and organize sterile instruments and procedural trays. Anticipate physician needs and respond quickly during critical moments. Communicate actively with the monitoring team to ensure accurate documentation. As a primary monitor technologist, record hemodynamic data and procedural events accurately. Ensure allergy considerations are communicated during the timeout. Operate and troubleshoot physiological monitoring systems. Document all supplies used, contrast usage, and procedural details accurately. Support the clinical team by assisting with patient preparation, patient positioning, and connecting monitoring equipment. Verify allergies, NPO status, and renal function collaboratively with the team. Perform patient identification and timeout processes in accordance with institutional policy. Assist with managing supplies, restocking rooms, and preparing for the next case. Assist with ensuring proper care of medical devices and support room turnover efficiency as needed.
