Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 23-bed Intermediate Care unit serving patients with diagnoses including stroke, cardiac conditions, sepsis, and post-surgical needs
- Titrate IV drips including Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Cardizem, Levophed, Cardene, and Precedex
- Perform and manage tracheostomy care, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy
- Interpret telemetry strips independently; monitor techs observe rhythms and rates but nurses are responsible for strip interpretation
- Participate in weekend rotation and every-other-holiday scheduling based on unit needs
- Float throughout the facility as needed, excluding ER and OB units
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
- Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience with tracheostomy care, BiPAP, stroke protocols, and IV drip titration
- Familiarity with intermediate or step-down care environments managing cardiac, sepsis, and neurological patient populations
- Experience working alongside monitor technicians while maintaining independent strip interpretation responsibilities
