    Job Title

    Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU / Step-Down)

    Schedule / Job Type

    Contract | 13 Weeks | Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours per Week

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Step-Down / Progressive Care Unit serving an adult population across two levels of acuity, including telemetry monitoring and intermediate care
    • Manage patients with frequent diagnoses including CAD, CHF, R/O MI, COPD, respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, end-stage renal and liver disease, GI bleed, and PE
    • Titrate vasoactive drips including Nitroglycerin, Cardene, and Cardizem; administer IV therapy including Amiodarone and other cardiac medications
    • Assist with or support procedures such as chest tube insertion, central line insertion, HD tunneled catheter insertion, and thoracentesis
    • Maintain staffing ratios of 1:5 (with flex to 1:6) on medical beds and 1:4 maximum on intermediate beds; charge nurse ratio 1:2
    • Float as needed to ED, Med-Surg, and ICU based on unit needs
    Required Qualifications
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina or compact state
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
    • IV insertion competency required
    • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
    • Must successfully pass required Relias competency exams upon booking (2 attempts allowed; failure of second attempt results in pre-start cancellation)
    • Must reside at least 80 miles from the facility to be eligible
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Prior experience in a PCU, step-down, or medical intermediate care unit setting
    • Experience managing telemetry patients and cardiac diagnoses such as CHF, CAD, and MI
    • Familiarity with peritoneal dialysis and renal patient populations
    • Experience with self-scheduling in a flexible, team-based environment
