Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed Stepdown unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1, managing a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, DKA, sepsis, renal conditions, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and neuro/surgical/cardiac cases
Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequently titrated vasopressors
Care for patients requiring advanced airway and ventilator support including tracheostomies, ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and face mask ventilation
Monitor and manage patients with chest tubes, G-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
Confirm telemetry strip interpretations provided by telemetry technicians using Phillips bedside monitors
Float as needed to ICU, other Stepdown units, or General Med floors based on staffing needs and experience level
Required Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
BLS certification required
Minimum of ICU or Intermediate/Stepdown experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1 — progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
Must have hands-on tracheostomy and ventilator experience
Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification (recommended)
Experience titrating vasoactive drips including vasopressors and cardiac medications
Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
Extensive ICU background (preferred for potential float assignments to the ICU)
