Intermediate Care Nurse (IMCU) Springfield, MA. This role involves providing specialized nursing care within a Medical Intermediate Care Unit that is evenly split between medical-telemetry and step-down services. The incumbent will manage patients with conditions such as pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, and respiratory failure, utilizing their skills in trachs, vents, and cardiac drips to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

  • Position Description: RN - Intermediate Care at Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, MA). Daly 6B is a Medical Intermediate Care Unit that is half medical-tele and half medical step-down.
  • Unit Size/Beds: 42 beds 21 medical & 21 Intermediate care.
  • Cases Seen: Pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, alcohol withdrawal, gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, urinary tract infections, respiratory failure.
  • Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS.
  • Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: RN license, ACLS and BLS certifications, 1-2 years of nursing experience in an intermediate care setting, experience with trachs, vents, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, BiPAP, telemetry, and minimum of 1 year of experience in comparable clinical settings.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience working on acute medical units with similar patient populations.
  • Additional Information: Floating to other units can happen at times; RNs work on both sides of the floor, requiring versatility in patient care.
