Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care across a mixed acuity unit encompassing Med/Surg, Telemetry, and Intermediate Care levels, with patient ratios adjusted based on acuity (1:4 IMC, 1:5 Med/Surg Tele, 1:5-6 long length of stay)
• Administer oral, IV, IM, and SQ medications; titrate vasoactive drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Esmolol, and other antihypertensives
• Manage peripheral IV, midline, PICC, and central line access, as well as chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices
• Read and interpret telemetry/cardiac monitoring strips; provide care for patients with diagnoses including DKA, CHF, COPD, renal failure, CVA overflow, pre/post-surgical conditions, and more
• Deliver preventative and restorative skin and wound care; manage TPN/tube feedings and blood product transfusions
• Maintain compliance with monthly pre/post pain scoring audits at a minimum 90% compliance rate

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the South Dakota Board of Nursing (or compact eligibility)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU/IMC/Stepdown nursing experience
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Proficiency in Epic EMR (required for all travelers, including first-time travelers)
• Comfort and ability to accept Med/Surg assignments in addition to IMC-level care
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with IMC/Stepdown and neurology patient populations; ability to float to Ortho/Neuro/Surgical units within scope of practice
• Familiarity with Omnicell and Alaris medication/infusion systems
• Experience precepting nursing students
• Flexibility with weekend scheduling, including willingness to work a weekend-only (WOW) schedule if preferred
