Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide progressive care nursing for post-operative open heart and cardiothoracic surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring in a 29-bed unit
  • Maintain a 4:1 patient ratio, delivering high-acuity care within a structured step-down environment
  • Assist with, manage, and remove chest tubes; manage central lines; and operate external and internal pacemakers and wound vacs
  • Float within scope to other areas of the facility as needed to meet operational needs
  • Accept Med/Surg overflow patients as unit census and acuity require
  • Document all patient care accurately using Cerner electronic health records
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Active WV RN license or Compact license in hand at time of submission (pending license accepted for submission)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Demonstrated experience with chest tube insertion assistance, management, and removal; central line management; external/internal pacemakers; and wound vacs
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions must be documented
  • Must have a permanent address greater than 100 miles from the facility; candidates residing between 75-100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Prior experience in a progressive care, step-down, or cardiac surgical unit
  • Familiarity with Cerner electronic health records
  • Experience working in a high-volume, Level IV Trauma or major teaching hospital environment
