    Registered Nurse – ICU Stepdown (ICCU)

    Schedule / Job Type

    Contract | Night Shift (12-hour nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week available | 13-week assignment or longer

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity stepdown/ICCU setting managing a 1:3–4 patient ratio with diagnoses including respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, GI bleeds, withdrawal, and post-operative patients across GYN, GU, GI, neuro, ortho, and thoracic specialties
    • Titrate and manage vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; administer IV insulin and heparin protocols
    • Monitor, recognize, and treat dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry with remote backup; EKG competency testing required prior to start
    • Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, peripheral lines, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomies, BIPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • Administer blood products, participate in rapid response team activations, and maintain isolation precautions
    • Float as needed to a sister ICCU unit; work every other weekend per unit requirement
    Required Qualifications
    • Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending licensure accepted for submission)
    • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, or telemetry setting
    • ACLS, BLS, and NIH stroke certification required
    • Demonstrated experience with arterial lines, titrating vasoactive drips, telemetry interpretation and management, IV starts, and conscious sedation
    • Proficiency with Epic and Pyxis
    • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted; a lower rate applies
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Prior travel nursing experience (first-time travelers accepted)
    • Experience managing pre/post OB patients with complications including Pitocin administration
    • Familiarity with tracheostomy management and non-invasive airway management in a non-ventilator environment
    • Experience caring for adolescent through geriatric patient populations
