Description: The Registered Nurse I assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care. Utilizes the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures. Monitors and evaluates patient functional status. Documents steps of the nursing process. Utilizes proper medical terminology. Addresses problems and progress toward goals. Facilitates patient discharge through timely and appropriate referrals. Utilizes patient education resources suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate. Supports unit and hospital goals through performance improvement and educational activities. Attends in-services and meets unit education standards. Completes variance reports. Exercises independent judgment in making decisions from diversified alternatives, subject to general review in final stages. Coordinates activities of others and leads others in the same work performed. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Interacts with internal customers both via telephone and face-to-face. Engages with external customers both via telephone and face-to-face. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff. Frequently works with individuals at the director level or above.
