Travel Nurse RN - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care in Tacoma, WA

Provide care for a diverse patient population including Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical, CVICU, Sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, strokes, TBI, respiratory compromise, and post-operative patients. Manage ventilators, BiPAP, invasive lines, chest tubes, lumbar drains, tracheostomies, ostomies, and general drains; perform IV medication titration and cardiac rhythm interpretation.

Key Responsibilities

• Float within ICU settings including Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Cardiac ICU, CCU, PCU/ACC, ED Holding, and Med Surg units as needed
• Provide care for a diverse patient population including Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical, CVICU, Sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, strokes, TBI, respiratory compromise, and post-operative patients
• Manage ventilators, BiPAP, invasive lines, chest tubes, lumbar drains, tracheostomies, ostomies, and general drains; perform IV medication titration and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Maintain ICU patient ratios of 1:2; PCU/ACC/CCU ratios of 1:4; ER Holding ratios based on patient acuity
• Document accurately in Epic, including hourly rounding, whiteboard updates, bedside report, and pre/post pain medication assessments
• Adhere to strict medication handling protocols including two-nurse verification when wasting controlled substances

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the state of Washington
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers with strong ICU background and previous float pool experience may be considered
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Epic EMR experience is required
• Traveler Telemetry Competency must be completed and passed prior to start date
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and BiPAP management, invasive line management, and IV medication titration

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in CVICU including post-op CABG, TAVR, AAA repair, esophagectomy, and thoracic/vascular surgical patients
• Experience floating across multiple ICU and step-down unit types
• Previous travel nursing experience with demonstrated adaptability in high-acuity environments
