Travel Nurse RN - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care in Roanoke, VA

Key Responsibilities

• Float across ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg units based on staffing needs, which are re-evaluated every four hours; traveler may float up to two to three times per shift
• Provide skilled nursing care including IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care and management, arterial line management, and blood product administration
• Manage trach care, non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP), ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Perform cardiac monitoring, administer continuous IV sedation and emergency medications, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Document all patient care using EPIC (required)
• Fulfill scheduling obligations including one holiday per 13-week contract and expected weekend shifts (every other weekend or six weekend shifts per six-week scheduling block)

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; a pending license may be accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum two years of ICU experience at a large Level I or Level II facility
• Must be comfortable working all three specialties: ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg, with experience at ratios of at least 1:5
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible; candidates residing 50–99.9 miles away may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior travel nursing experience, though first-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Familiarity with high-acuity patient populations across multiple unit types in a large teaching hospital environment
• Experience managing patients on continuous sedation drips and vasoactive medications in an ICU setting
