Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM–7:15 AM or 6:45 AM–7:15 PM) | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Medical ICU setting with a 1:1–2 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing complex diagnoses including ARDS, sepsis, chronic vent, ETOH withdrawal, DKA, CRRT, therapeutic hypothermia, and IABP
- Titrate vasoactive medications, sedation medications, heparin, and insulin drips as required
- Read and interpret EKG strips independently; unit utilizes Philips monitors
- Operate and monitor respiratory equipment including ventilators (Dräger, Hamilton), CPAP, and BiPAP in coordination with in-house RT available 24/7
- Practice primary nursing with support from safety attendants; hospitalist and intensivist are in house 24/7
- May float to other critical care units within the facility system; mid-shift float to another facility is rare but possible
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in California
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Ability to read and independently interpret EKG strips
- Prior to contract start, candidates must complete a competency exam (DYS Exam through UNA) within 24–48 hours of offer; a minimum score of 80% is required within two attempts
- Two supervisory references from the submitting modality required at submittal (one within 12 months, one within 3 years); charge nurse references are accepted
Preferred Experience / Skills
- CRRT experience preferred (Next Stage system)
- Cardiac skills or background; extensive CVICU experience is not required but cardiac competency is valued by the unit
- Experience with line placements and intubation procedures in an ICU environment
- Familiarity with self-scheduling platforms and flexibility to pick up extra shifts
