Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Float Duration: 15 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Pending license not accepted Certifications: Required certifications include ACLS and BLS. Must-Have: - Previous experience with ICP monitoring and external ventricular drain management - Neuro and Cardiac experience Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Float specialty. The nurse will float among critical care units, including Surgical ICU, Cardiac ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Medical ICU, and Bone Marrow Transplant/Oncology ICU, as well as one Med-Surg Department. Patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2. Weekend shifts are required. First-time travelers are not accepted. The nurse must have skills in BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, and continuous IV sedation. Experience with CVA/acute stroke management is essential. The nurse will need to monitor and interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias. Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure is required. The nurse will be responsible for starting and maintaining IVs and administering procedural sedation. Floating to acute care units may be required if no critical care needs arise. Travelers will receive brief orientation to acute care units within the cluster. Effective communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary support services are necessary. Experience in post-cardiac surgery and post-neurosurgery settings is preferred. The nurse will work variable shifts, primarily on nights, but could be required to work day shifts as needs arise. The focus is on providing critical care in a fast-paced environment.
