Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years in ICU setting License: Active RN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience Comfortable floating to Med/Surg units Experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 settings preferred Description: The ICU unit is a 5-bed facility with 2 IMC beds in the hallway. Nurse to patient ratios are 2:1 for ICU and 3:1 for IMC, depending on acuity. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacing. Strong ventilation management skills are required. There are no pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery services available. RNs are required to titrate drips including Levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulin. Charge nurses take full patient assignments. Nurse aides are not present on this unit. A hospitalist or intensivist is in-house until 6 PM, with tele-physician coverage at night. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 but not located in the ICU. Required equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow, with RNs needing to troubleshoot equipment as needed. Tele/monitor technicians are available during the day, and RNs verify their own strips. Shifts are 12 hours from 0700-1900 and 1900-0700, with rotation on weekends and holidays. There is a call or standby requirement, and RNs may float to Med/Surg units as needed. The dress code is solid professional attire without specific color requirements.
