Job Summary

Join a dedicated team as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse in a 9-bed critical care unit located in Kealakekua, Hawaii. This role involves providing high-acuity care to a primarily adult patient population, with the occasional responsibility for stable pediatric patients who require critical monitoring. Unstable pediatric cases are promptly transferred to higher levels of care.

The successful candidate will manage a dynamic patient load, typically maintaining a 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, which may adjust to 1:1 for critically unstable patients. There is also a potential for supporting Med/Surg overflow, where the ratio may increase to 3-4 patients per nurse. Each shift is staffed with a minimum of three nurses, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Opportunities may arise to float to other departments to provide assistance without taking on a full patient assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive direct patient care to critically ill adult patients within the 9-bed ICU.
  • Manage patient assignments with typical ratios of 2:1, adjusting to 1:1 for high-acuity cases as indicated.
  • Care for stable pediatric patients requiring critical care, ensuring appropriate transfer for unstable cases.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, administer medications, and implement treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and execute individualized patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient documentation.
  • Potentially support Med/Surg overflow, managing up to 3-4 patients as needed.
  • Float to other departments to provide assistance, without taking a full patient assignment, when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Critical Care Unit (CCU) setting.
  • Demonstrated experience caring for pediatric patients.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
