Responsibilities include managing patients experiencing respiratory failure, ARDS, CHF, COPD, post-STEMI, post-arrest, post-surgical recovery, DKA, GI bleed, overdose, ETOH withdrawal, CVA, and renal failure. Nurses will be required to titrate medications including pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin, and heparin. The nurse-to-patient ratios will range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity. The unit contains 23 beds and has dedicated staff including a hospitalist or intensivist available 24/7. Respiratory therapy services are also available around the clock. Nurses will be responsible for EKG monitoring and must be able to draw labs and perform EKGs. Support staff is available 24/7 but will not be assigned specifically to the ICU. Weekend and holiday shifts will be required based on unit needs. This is a teaching facility expecting professional interactions among physicians, staff, students, and instructors. Nurses must clock in and out of the facility for each shift.
