Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Thermaguard/Zoll cooling experience with targeted temperature management (TTM) EPIC experience Previous travel experience Description: This is an ICU and PCU combination unit with 16 ICU beds and 14 PCU beds. The nurse to patient ratio in the ICU is 1:1-2 and in the PCU is 1:3. Travelers do not care for specialty patients which include vented patients, cardiac patients post PCI, impella, IABP, stroke patients receiving TNK, and those requiring targeted temperature management (TTM) with Zoll cooling or thermoguard. Other common diagnoses include vascular conditions, traumas, alcohol-related issues, sepsis, overdoses, and some abdominal trauma and surgical cases. Experience managing critical care patients is essential. Charge nurses do not take assignments and support the entire unit, which includes ICU and PCU. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are available in a ratio of 1:8. The responsibilities of CNAs include vital signs monitoring, foley care, bathing, IV pulls, bladder scans, and specimen collection. An intensivist is in-house seven days a week, mostly during the day shift. There is an electronic ICU available for nighttime support. Clientists are present 24/7. Respiratory therapy is also available in the unit at all times. Registered Nurses are expected to be comfortable reading and interpreting telemetry strips. Telemonitoring technicians are available in-house and at sister sites. Registered Nurses are required to be flexible with scheduling and will assist in filling any gaps. While every other weekend is typical, it may be less depending on unit needs. Holiday coverage is also required as needed. Registered Nurses are expected to float between ICU and PCU patients within the unit. The scrub color is navy blue. Overall, the unit values a great culture and teamwork, encouraging interaction with travelers. Staff members enjoy participating in outdoor activities in the area.
