Job Summary
This is a critical care Registered Nurse opportunity within a specialized 6-bed Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. The unit provides advanced post-operative care for patients undergoing complex cardiovascular surgeries.
The ideal candidate will manage a high-acuity patient population, including those recovering from open-heart surgery ("fresh hearts"), experiencing cardiogenic shock, or requiring intensive monitoring for conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). This role demands expert clinical judgment, advanced critical care skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill cardiothoracic surgical patients.
- Monitor and manage patients post-cardiac surgery, including those with "fresh hearts."
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Manage complex hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, and vasoactive infusions.
- Respond effectively to emergent situations and provide life-saving interventions.
- Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and recovery.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records using EPIC.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU).
- Demonstrated experience caring for post-operative open-heart surgery patients ("fresh hearts").
- Prior travel nursing experience (for candidates residing outside a 75-mile radius).
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.
