Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse for a critical care assignment in Arcata, California. This role is based within an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) setting, providing specialized nursing care to critically ill adult patients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex patient cases, utilizing advanced monitoring techniques, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver optimal patient outcomes. This position requires a commitment to high-quality, compassionate care in a fast-paced environment.

Daily responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, operating specialized medical equipment, and responding to emergent situations. The role may occasionally involve floating to other critical care areas to provide support and cover breaks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU/CCU.
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient status, including vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and neurological status.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and patient safety.
  • Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment such as ventilators, IV pumps, and cardiac monitors.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, residents, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergent situations, initiating appropriate interventions and life support measures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • May occasionally float to cover breaks and assist in other critical care areas as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Proof of negative TB screen within 12 months of contract start date.
