The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury. The RN alleviates suffering through diagnosis and treatment. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key role. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care. The RN serves as a primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignment. Consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact is crucial. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management. Utilizing available resources is important in education efforts. A working knowledge of pharmacology is utilized to safely administer medications. Compliance with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is expected. The RN actively participates in the Nursing Shared Governance Model. Support for the Unit Council and participation in initiatives are encouraged. The RN contributes to peer review practices. Engagement in professional development and continuing education is required. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is vital. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is a responsibility. The RN performs duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. Participation in the Clinical Ladder Program is encouraged. The RN will perform other duties as assigned.
