Utilizing Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring and Relationship Based Care, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for all assigned patients. The RN determines progress towards goals and fosters a therapeutic professional relationship with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team. Care is tailored to the physiological, developmental, and psychosocial needs of each patient. The RN supports the mission, vision, values, and standards of excellence of the organization. Competency in the role is achieved through consistently demonstrating the ability to apply scientific knowledge in the nursing process. The RN provides care aligned with the interdisciplinary plan and principles of Relationship Based Care. Ongoing assessment of the patient's physical and psychosocial condition informs nursing diagnosis. The RN develops a collaborative care plan with the patient, ensuring services support safety, comfort, hygiene, and disease prevention. Essential nursing skills are performed, and treatment is clearly explained to patients and families. The effectiveness of the care plan is evaluated through patient observations and communication with the healthcare team, modifying the plan as necessary. The RN demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and medications. Tasks may be delegated to care team members based on their scopes of practice, with appropriate supervision of nursing care provided. Advocacy for the patient includes initiating actions to improve healthcare and ensuring informed decision-making opportunities. Culturally competent and ethical care is provided within legal standards. The RN coordinates care activities with other nursing staff, physicians, and allied health professionals. Effective communication skills are utilized for safe patient hand-offs and documentation. The RN contributes to a positive patient care experience through interactions with patients and families. There is accountability to address and resolve complaints effectively. Proficient written, verbal, and electronic communication skills are required. Physical duties include lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills. Completion of annual organizational requirements for employment is expected.
