Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Summary

Join our dedicated critical care team as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This facility features a comprehensive 42-bed ICU, thoughtfully divided into specialized areas: 22 beds for Neuro/Medical patients, 6 beds for Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), and 14 beds for Surgical/Trauma cases. You will be an integral part of a team providing high-acuity care to a diverse patient population.

The patient population includes individuals with complex conditions such as strokes, sepsis, altered mental status, neuro interventions (e.g., TCAR), respiratory failure, congestive heart failure (CHF), post-STEMI, cardiovascular surgery, cardiogenic shock, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery, trauma, and major post-operative complications. This role requires a commitment to excellence in patient care, critical thinking, and the ability to manage advanced life support technologies.

As an ICU RN, you will provide comprehensive critical care, manage complex patient conditions, and utilize advanced monitoring and life support equipment. Floating to other critical care units (excluding Behavioral Health and the Emergency Department unless holding status) is a required component of this role, ensuring flexibility and broad exposure across critical care settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill patients across various ICU sub-specialties, including Neuro/Medical, CTICU, and Surgical/Trauma.
  • Monitor and manage patients with complex conditions such as strokes, sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiogenic shock, and post-operative complications.
  • Operate and manage specialized critical care equipment, including Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) systems (Prismaflex/NxStage), Ventriculostomy, Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring, and Therapeutic Hypothermia (Arctic Sun).
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based care plans.
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
  • Float to other critical care units as needed, excluding Behavioral Health and the Emergency Department (unless holding status).

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), Trauma ICU, Medical-Surgical ICU (MS ICU), or Neuro ICU.
  • Demonstrated experience in travel nursing assignments.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, specifically EPIC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of progressive experience in an Intensive Care Unit setting.
  • Strong cardiac experience, particularly with cardiovascular surgery patients.
