Travel Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Summary

Join a dynamic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This 42-bed unit is comprised of specialized areas including Neuro/Medical (22 beds), Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU - 6 beds), and Surgical/Trauma (14 beds), providing comprehensive critical care to a diverse patient population.

The unit manages a wide range of complex patient conditions, including strokes, sepsis, altered mental status, neuro interventions (TCAR), respiratory failure, congestive heart failure, post-STEMI, cardiovascular surgeries, cardiogenic shock, AAA, trauma, and major post-operative cases. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment, utilizing advanced critical care skills and specialized equipment to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients across various ICU sub-specialties.
  • Monitor, assess, and interpret patient conditions, including hemodynamic parameters, neurological status, and respiratory function.
  • Implement and manage therapeutic interventions for complex diagnoses such as strokes, sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac conditions, trauma, and post-surgical recovery.
  • Operate and manage advanced critical care equipment, including IABP, CRRT, Ventriculostomy, ICP monitoring, and TTM.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, residents, and other interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Float to other critical care units as required, excluding Behavioral Health and Emergency Room (unless holding patients).
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent, acute care experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including experience in SICU, CTICU, Trauma ICU, Medical Surgical ICU, or Neuro ICU.
  • Prior travel nursing experience.
  • Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4-5 years of dedicated ICU experience.
  • Strong experience with cardiac patients and cardiovascular surgical recovery.
Skills & Competencies
  • Clinical Skills: Advanced critical care assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, advanced cardiac life support, neurological assessment, post-operative care, trauma care, medication administration.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) including Prismaflex/PRISMA or NxStage, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Ventriculostomy management, Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring, Targeted Temperature Management (TTM) with Arctic Sun.
