Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Certification, NIHSS Must-Have: - Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays - Preferred 3 years of experience Description: The unit is licensed for 40 beds and operates with a setup in pods of 8. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 2:1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. The charge nurse does not have a patient assignment and acts as a resource for the team. Typically, there is one nurse aide on days only. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday shifts are rotated with core staff. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue, and for nurse aides, it is hunter green. There are no monitor techs; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their strips. The unit administers drips, including pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation. Ventilation support is available. Clientist or intensivist coverage is in-house. There is no dedicated IV team. Respiratory therapy coverage is available 24/7. Pharmacy support is also available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, with start times of 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Floating may occur to telemetry and emergency department ICU/telemetry holds. Orientation consists of eight hours with an ICU educator and additional hours with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include higher-level neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, alcohol-related issues, and stroke. Additional care includes ventriculostomies, traumatic brain injuries, and continuous intracranial pressure monitoring. No acrylic nails or gel polish are allowed during the assignment. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts within a 13-week assignment.
