Patient Population: Common diagnoses include COPD, AFIB, post-op cases (e.g., colon resections), diabetic patients, COVID-19 patients, occasional alcohol withdrawal, suicidal patients, and GI bleeds. Common Drips: Titrated/set rate drips include Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin for minimal sedation/ventilated patients. Scheduling: Shifts are 12 hours, scheduled from 7 AM to 7:30 PM or 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance, and management ensures coverage while allowing for block scheduling upon request. Weekend requirements include every third weekend for night shifts or every other weekend for day shifts. Holiday requirements are negotiable, and willingness to work holidays is appreciated. Call/standby is not required but welcomed if willing to pick up shifts. Staffing and Support: Charge Nurse and House Supervisor oversee the unit. Clinical Care Coordinator and House Supervisor are present during off-shifts and weekends. Charge nurse may take patient assignments when necessary. Nurse aides from acute care can assist, though ICU generally requires total patient care. Clientist and Nurse Practitioner are available daily, with on-call support at night. Emergency teams assist in urgent situations like intubations. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. Equipment: Ventilators, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and Nihon Kohden cardiac monitors are utilized in the unit. Floating Requirements: ICU staff may occasionally float to Med-Surg/Acute Care when necessary. Traveling staff typically remain in the ICU. The same director oversees both units, and the same charting format is used across units. Scrub Color/Dress Code: Pewter-colored scrub tops or jackets are required, along with black pants, black shoes, and black socks. Colored tops are acceptable as long as the outermost layer is pewter. Please note that a valid license is required for this position.
