Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources.
Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit related to the specific area of practice.
Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
Implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
Modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
Confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative for appropriate solutions.
Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
Ensures good communication with patients and families by utilizing meaningful hourly rounding and bedside report.
Collaborates with the team to ensure the best outcomes.
Prepares equipment and aids physicians during examination and treatment.
Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.
Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients.
Interprets and records electronic displays, such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, and cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors.
Required skills include the nursing process, initial assessment, patient care procedures, nursing interventions, and cardiac monitors.
Additional skills desirable include experience with respirators, ventilators, oxygen pumps, intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, and cardiac rhythms.
ASN is required; BSN is preferred.
