Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Experience with ventilators and drip titrations Comfortable caring for patients of all age populations Description: The ICU unit consists of 5 beds. Staff-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3, with 1:1 for unstable vent patients. Common diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, encephalopathy, DKA, COPD exacerbation, and RSV/Influenza/COVID-19. Occasional stable pediatric patients may be present. The position requires RNs to titrate drips, including heparin, vasopressors, Bumex, insulin, and sedation/analgesia. A supervisor is available 24/7. Charge RNs are unit RNs and take on patient assignments. There is 1 Certified Nursing Assistant for the department on day shifts. A hospitalist is available in-house. Respiratory therapy is present in the ICU 24/7. Telemetry is monitored, with RNs responsible for reading telemetry strips for med-surg patients. The schedule requires three 12-hour shifts per week, with weekend shifts every other week. Holiday requirements are negotiable. If placed on low census, reporting to work within 30 minutes is expected. Floating to other departments may occur; RNs can choose to crosstrain fully if desired. The dress code for the unit is navy blue. Unit-specific orientation lasts 3-6 shifts or longer if needed. The environment is noted for excellent staffing ratios and teamwork among staff. The cancellation policy allows for the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is MEDITECH.
