Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: ICU Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience; 3+ years for first-time travelers License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must float within designated zone; Comfortable titrating critical drips Description: Hiring process includes an interview with the clinical team with no unit manager involvement. The traveler is responsible for obtaining housing that allows floating throughout the full zone. It is essential for travelers to be in state for the week of orientation, as missing shifts is limited. Travelers must submit a two-week notice to avoid penalties for cancellation. Nurses are required to float to various facilities within a 60-mile radius. Shift schedules are released 4-6 weeks in advance. Weekend shifts are required, with 6-9 shifts in a 6-week schedule. May be asked to go into the holiday rotation. Nurses will work in a combination of ICU settings, including MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, etc. Patient ratios depend on acuity, ranging from 1:1-2, with the possibility of flexing to 1:3 for high acuity patients. Nurses are expected to assist in managing respiratory needs and work with various respiratory equipment. No monitor techs are present, requiring nurses to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment. Travelers are expected to be flexible and assist in filling scheduling gaps.
