The ratio is 1:2 in ICU and 1:3 in SDU. Occasionally, patient acuity may require 1:1 care in the ICU. Typical patients include respiratory failure, DKA, post cardiac Cath STEMI patients, sepsis patients, alcohol withdrawal, etc. On the SDU unit, we admit patients on diltiazem and amiodarone drips for Afib RVR and patients on BIPAP, among others. Nurses should be able to manage titratable IV drips, including vasopressors, propofol, fentanyl, etc. ICU shifts are from 0700 to 1930 or 1900 to 1930.
