Description:
Critical care registered nurses are skilled in providing care for patients with severe medical conditions.
They assess patient conditions and develop and implement care plans.
They treat wounds and provide advanced life support.
They assist physicians in performing procedures.
They observe and record patient vital signs.
They ensure that medical equipment, such as ventilators and monitors, is functioning properly.
They administer intravenous fluids and medications.
They are responsible for suctioning when necessary.
They collaborate with fellow members of the critical care team.
They respond to life-threatening situations using established nursing protocols.
They act as patient advocates and provide education and support to patient families.
Critical care nurses may also care for pre- and post-operative patients.
Some nurses serve in roles related to case management or administrative duties.
