Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years in ICU License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred Must-Have: - Ventilator and trach management - Invasive line management (arterial lines, central venous pressure lines, Swan ganz) - Drains and chest tubes - Foley management - Post-surgical recovery - Post-catheterization experience - Continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) - Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) Description: Level III Trauma Center with a Level II NICU. Total of 136 beds available. ICU unit has 17 beds. Mixed patient population includes general and surgical cases. Common diagnoses include sepsis, alcohol intoxication, intravenous drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeds, strokes with tissue plasminogen activator, acute renal failure, COVID, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Surgical patients include general, open abdominal, orthopedic (total joint), ear-nose-throat, and obstetrics-gynecology. No complex neurology cases are treated in this unit. Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, based on acuity level. Support staff includes certified nursing assistants during day shifts and minimal overnight coverage. Charge nurse available with occasional patient assignments. Daytime support includes educators, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists. Pharmacist available specifically for ICU during daytime. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically EPIC, is preferred. Expectation of floating within the scope of practice, which may include intermediate, medical-surgical, or observation units. Weekends are rotated every other week. One holiday per contract term required. Approval for requested time off must go through management. Scrub color is flexible, but formal designs or graphics are not permitted. Sick leave policy includes a discussion after more than two sick calls.
