Description:
This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.
The unit consists of two separate areas: Surgical ICU and Medical ICU.
Both areas are staffed as a combined unit.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1 and 1:2.
Common diagnoses include CABG, CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, GI bleeds, DKA, STEMI, septic shock, overdose, respiratory failure, neurosurgery, and open-heart surgeries.
Experience with CRRT, ECMO, and balloon pump is not required for travelers.
Nurses are expected to titrate drips including dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, cardene, nitroglycerin, neosynephrine, vasopressin, diltiazem, insulin, and esmolol.
Charge nurses are present in each unit and do not routinely take an assignment.
Resource nurses are available in each unit for support.
There are certified nursing assistants available, with ratios of 1:8.
Clientists and intensivists are in-house.
Respiratory therapy is provided in the ICU 24/7, with a minimum of two staff members.
RNs monitor and read telemetry strips.
Shifts are scheduled as 12 hours, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with efforts made to accommodate requests.
Every other weekend is required, along with holiday availability as needed.
Floating to other ICUs may be necessary.
No specific dress code is required.
Unit-specific orientation is provided.
