Administering intravenous fluids and medications is part of the role. Suctioning and collaborating with the critical care team are necessary. Responding to life-saving situations using nursing standards and protocols is crucial. Acting as a patient advocate and providing education and support to families is expected. Critical care nurses may also care for pre- and post-operative patients. Some roles may include case management and administrative duties.
