Description:
This is an ICU and PCU combination unit.
There are 16 ICU beds and 14 PCU beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 in the ICU and 1:3 in the PCU.
Travelers do not receive specialty patients such as those on ventilation, cardiac post PCI, or requiring advanced life support.
Common diagnoses include stroke, sepsis, trauma, and various surgical conditions.
Experience with safe titration of standard ICU drips, vasoactive medications, and sedatives is required.
Charge nurses do not take patient assignments and support the entire unit.
Certified nursing assistants work with a 1:8 ratio.
The unit has intensivists available 7 days a week.
Night coverage is supported by eICU technology.
Respiratory therapists are available in the unit 24/7.
Telemetry technicians are present to monitor patients, but RNs must be comfortable reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
Shifts are primarily 7 PM to 7 AM, with weekend requirements typically every other weekend.
There is no call or standby requirement.
Floating between ICU and PCU patients is expected.
The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.
The unit promotes a great culture and teamwork among staff.
Staff members enjoy outdoor activities in the area.
Holiday coverage may be required.
Cancellations may be made up to 4 shifts as needed during the assignment.
The charting system in use is EPIC.
A BSN degree is not required for this position.
This position is in an acute care setting.
The facility is a Trauma Level 3 center.
