Description:
This position requires experience in a high acuity mixed medical-surgical and thoracic/cardiovascular ICU.
Common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, CHF, COPD, post-STEMI, post-arrest, and post-surgical cases.
The nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
Nurses will be responsible for titrating various drips, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin, and heparin.
Charge nurses do not have patient assignments but oversee unit operations.
There is a dedicated internal medicine team available in-house 24/7.
Respiratory therapy is also available in the ICU around the clock.
Nurses are required to perform EKG monitoring and interpretation.
Staffing includes a nurse aide for every over eight patient census during days and nights.
Weekend shift requirements include a minimum of six weekend shifts within a six-week scheduling block.
Travelers will work holidays based on the needs of the unit, with no holiday requests approved in advance.
Travelers may rotate between different patient responsibilities as part of unit flexibility.
The ICU is a teaching facility, and professional relationships with colleagues and students are encouraged.
All clinicians must comply with clocking in and out at the facility.
Support staff is available 24/7 but is not assigned directly to the ICU.
