Job Title: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience in similar size or larger ICU and hospital preferred Description: Department: ICU Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:1 and 1:2. Common diagnoses/Types of patients: CABG, CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral brain hemorrhage, GI bleeds, DKA, STEMI, septic shock, overdose, respiratory failure, neuro surgery, open heart surgeries. Required skills: Must have 2 years of ICU experience. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and/or set rate drips: Dopamine, Epi, Norepi, cardene, nitro, neo, vasopressin, diltiazem, insulin, esmolol. Charge nurse available on each unit, does not routinely take an assignment. Resource nurse available on each unit. There are nurse aides on this unit with ratios of 1:8. Two CNAs per unit on days, one to one-and-a-half per unit on nights. Clientist or intensivist in house. Respiratory therapy staff available 24/7 with a minimum of two in each ICU. Equipment includes vents, BiPAP, and CPAP. RNs are responsible for reading their own monitor strips. Utilize travel RNs to fill staffing needs. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements apply if there is a need. Floating to other ICUs may be required. This facility has a radius rule of 50 miles. Unit-specific orientation consists of one to two shifts.
