About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse - ICU to provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and medically complex patients. The ICU RN will continuously assess patient conditions, monitor vital signs and cardiac rhythms, administer medications and treatments, manage critical care equipment, and respond promptly to changes in patient status.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced ICU nurse who is confident working in a high-acuity environment and collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to deliver safe and effective patient care.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial and ongoing assessments of critically ill patients
- Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other critical indicators
- Recognize subtle changes in patient condition and promptly initiate appropriate interventions
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized critical care nursing plans
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments according to provider orders
- Manage and monitor central lines, arterial lines, drains, catheters, and other invasive devices
- Monitor patients receiving oxygen therapy, ventilatory support, and other critical care interventions
- Assist physicians and other providers with procedures and bedside interventions
- Monitor laboratory results, diagnostic findings, and patient responses to treatment
- Provide care for patients with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, respiratory, and other critical conditions
- Manage pain, sedation, comfort, and patient safety according to established protocols
- Respond rapidly to emergencies, clinical deterioration, and life-threatening conditions
- Participate in code response, resuscitation, and stabilization activities as required
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- Monitor intake and output and maintain accurate fluid balance records
- Provide wound care and other treatments within scope of practice
- Communicate critical patient information and changes in condition to physicians and the healthcare team
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, medications, and care when appropriate
- Assist with admissions, transfers, procedures, and transitions of care
- Follow infection prevention, medication safety, and critical care protocols
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Support evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license eligible to practice in Arizona
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or comparable critical care nursing experience
- Strong knowledge of critical care nursing practices
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, medication administration, and critical patient assessment
- Familiarity with ventilatory support and management of critically ill patients
- Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition
- Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and prioritization skills
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity environment
- Comfortable working 12-hour day shifts
- Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements
