Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience - BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications Description: The Manager needs a candidate who can start ASAP. This facility has 109 licensed beds and does not have a trauma designation. It is not a teaching hospital and does not have residents or students. The ICU unit has 10 beds and an average census of 7.3 patients per day. The minimum experience required is 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience. Patients commonly present with sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled DM and DKA, minor trauma, ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses such as flu, COVID, and pneumonia. Patient ratios are RN: 1:2-3, depending on acuity, with often having 3 patients within an assignment. A mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients may occur. A CNA is not available overnight and is 1:10 for dayshift only. Required skills include stroke experience and NIH assessments, cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of art lines and CVPs, experience with critical care drips, chest tubes, and IV starts. Experience with TNK administration, ventilator management, trach care, NGT placement, and drain/tube management is necessary. Proficiency in managing PCA pumps and wound care is expected. The nurse should be capable of completing 12-lead EKGs and managing medication drips, including critical care gtts, cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids. Support within the department includes a house supervisor, a charge nurse available for staffing, phlebotomy services, and a dedicated IV/VAT team only on dayshift. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. A hospitalist will be present 24/7, with first call for intubation escalated to CRNA if necessary. An intensivist physician rounds Monday through Friday. For urgent situations overnight, the nurse will contact a designated communication center. Bedside and central telemetry monitoring will be managed by registered nurses. Technology includes EMR, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and patient monitoring devices. Floating may occur within the facility to Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, or ED holds when necessary. Floating to regional facilities may also be required as dictated by patient needs, within scope of practice. Weekend rotation is expected every other weekend. Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays. Schedule cycle is every 6 weeks. Unit culture focuses on teamwork and communication, with an emphasis on being open to constructive feedback.
