Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU RN experience License: Required Certifications: NIHSS, BLS, ACLS required; CCRN preferred Must-Have: - Strong assessment and critical thinking skills - Proficient in managing complex patient cases - Experience with ventilator management and invasive monitoring Description: Registered Nurse position available in the Intensive Care Unit. The facility has a capacity of 637 licensed beds and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center. It operates as a teaching hospital with specialized centers for cardiac care and stroke. The unit has a total of 14 beds with a census of 14 patients. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, DKA, and stroke. Experience with chronic ventilators and tracheostomy care is essential. The unit cares for hemodynamically unstable patients requiring close monitoring. Patient ratios are typically 1:1 to 1:2, with rare instances of a ratio of 1:3. Certified nursing assistants assist with vital signs, glucose checks, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding. There is a unit secretary available from 7 AM to 11 PM, with a house-wide call secretary available overnight. The unit has access to a respiratory therapist and hospitalists 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is conducted through a central monitoring unit. Experience with essential skills like tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and IV starts is required. The use of technology includes an Electronic Medical Record system and various monitoring and infusion devices. Collaboration and teamwork are emphasized within the busy unit culture.
