**Job Description**
- **Location:** Alexandria, Louisiana
- **Unit Name:** Medical ICU
- **Number of Beds:** 26
- **Patient Ratios:** 2:1
**Unit Highlights:**
- **Team Structure:** RNs and Unit Secretary/COVID Runner providing total care.
- **Cutting-edge Equipment:**
- Ventilators
- Alaris IV pumps
- Balloon pumps
- Ventriculostomy drains
- Glucometers
- **Technology Integration:** iMobile phones and technology used by all staff.
- **PPE Protocols:** Masks, face shields, goggles, PAPR’s, and hoods for COVID-19 patients.
- **Documentation System:** Meditech utilizing EBCD (Evidence Based Clinical Documentation).
**Schedule Details:**
- **Shift Length:** 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM)
- **Weekend Requirements:** Every other weekend
- **Holiday Expectations:** Yes, holiday shifts required
- **Floating Policy:** Staff may float to other Medical-Surgical Units with a focus on ICU.
**Patient Experience Focus:**
- **Rounding:** Hourly rounding to enhance patient comfort.
- **Hand-off Reporting:** Bedside hand-offs, completion of "My Care Board."
- **Communication:** Utilizing AIDET for compassionate connected care.
**Unit Accomplishments:**
- **Certifications:** Pathways to Excellence Certified, pursuing Magnet status, Certified Stroke Center, Certified Chest Pain Center, Level II Trauma Center.
- **Awards:** HCA Unit of Distinction, top 10% and 5%, overall #2 ranked ICU in HCA (2019).
- **Quality Measures:** Consistently maintained at high standards.
**Hiring Profile:**
- **Must-Have Skills:**
- ICU experience
- COVID-19 patient care willingness
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
- Self-motivated with excellent communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a diverse environment
- **Advanced Skills Required:**
- Ventilator management
- Critical care drip knowledge
- Thorough assessment skills
- Cardiac, neuro, and respiratory systems knowledge
- Donning and doffing PPE
- **Procedures Performed in Unit:**
- Intubations
- Cardioversions
- Ventriculostomy drain management
- IABP management
- Continual renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Patient proning
- **Certifications Required:** ACLS and BLS; TNCC preferred.
**Dress Code:**
- Required uniform: Ceil blue scrubs
- Optional: White or ceil blue scrub jacket
- For COVID patients: Green surgery scrubs provided upon arrival.
