Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Stroke experience, ventilator management, assist with intubation/extubation, central venous line management, foley catheter management, tube feedings via NGT or PEG, IV medication titration, vasoactive drip management, total care of critically ill patients, arterial line management, external ventricular drain management Description: This position is for a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. The unit has 20 beds and an average daily census of 16 patients. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience. First-time travelers will be accepted if they have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must have been separated for 1 year if previously permanent staff. Patient types include adult surgical and medical ICU patients. Common diagnoses include STEMI, DKA, respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, neuro conditions, and surgical patients. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Experience with post-CABG patients is preferred but not required. Travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance. Support within the department includes a charge RN with no patient assignment during the day, one CNA per shift, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, a clinical team during the day, and hospitalist coverage 24/7. Technology and equipment include an electronic medical record system and various medical devices such as IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. Floating may occur to step-down or medical-surgical units with corresponding patient ratios. Scheduling includes every other weekend and the possibility of working holidays. Requests for time off will be accommodated for no more than 7 days. Shift times may vary between day and night. Scrub color is pewter gray, and T-shirts must be gray, white, or black. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges should be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. Unit culture is supportive and collaborative.
