The role will involve supporting the Department of Health Services. The Infection Preventionist will report to the Chief of the Office of Healthcare-Associated Infections. The position will serve as a subject matter expert for infection prevention and control. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in an applied clinical science such as nursing, public health, microbiology, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology. A Master’s degree is preferred. The candidate must be certified in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. Experience as an infection preventionist in acute care infection prevention is required. Preferred skills include a broad knowledge of infection prevention in congregate care settings. Previous experience in hospital-based infection prevention and control programs to reduce healthcare-associated infections is desirable. The candidate should be able to plan, implement, and evaluate infection control practices, policies, and procedures. On-site assessments in healthcare and congregate facilities are required. Strong technical skills in word processing, spreadsheet development, and database management are essential. Proficiency in Google Suite is emphasized. The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in reviewing and editing documents and conducting interviews is beneficial. Organizational and prioritization skills are necessary for efficient task management. The candidate should be able to work independently and use strong judgment. Responsibilities include providing infection control support and tracking activities. The Infection Preventionist will create and update standard operating procedures and protocols. Participation in strategic planning and development of ideas to promote infection prevention and control efforts is required. Conducting on-site and teleconference infection prevention program assessments in various settings is part of the role. Summary reports of facility assessments with recommendations need to be completed within two weeks of assessments. Follow-up with facilities is necessary to ensure recommended actions are implemented. Education of licensing surveyors on infection prevention and control is expected. Conducting infection prevention trainings on various topics is required, using diverse educational formats. Consultation for outbreak investigations in collaboration with local health departments will be part of the duties. The Infection Preventionist will interview healthcare facilities about risk factors associated with outbreaks. Providing expert guidance in drafting, reviewing, and editing technical reports and educational materials is needed. Consultation with local health jurisdictions to build capacity for quality site assessments is also required. Educating and training internal staff about disease prevention and control precautions is expected. Evaluating research and evidence-based practices for incorporation into routine practice is part of the role. The candidate must show willingness to travel as needed. Other related duties may be assigned.
