ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced ICU Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The role requires floating to various Med/Surg units as needed.

Unit Description:

The MICU is a 20-bed unit that serves a diverse adult patient population, including those with complex conditions such as:

• Substance Abuse/Overdose
• Severe Psychiatric Conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal Bleeds
• Respiratory Failure
• Cardiac Arrest
• Renal Failure
• Cardiogenic Shock

Physicians and residents are available in the unit 24/7 to support patient care.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the MICU.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings; must be proficient in reading tele strips.
• Administer medications and treatments as per established protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop patient care plans.
• Assist with patient and family education regarding health management.
• Respond to medical emergencies and demonstrate critical thinking skills in evaluating patient conditions.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous MICU experience is required.
• Experience in adult ICU is mandatory.
• Must possess an active Massachusetts RN license.
• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Strong telemetry competency is required.
• Ability to float to medical/surgical units, caring for 4-5 patients as needed.

Additional Information:

• Free on-site parking available.
• Night shifts and every other weekend (EOW) work schedule required.
• RN to patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity; 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other Med/Surg areas.
• Charting System: EPIC.
