Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, compassionate, patient-centered care while promoting health, preventing illness and injury, and supporting the well-being of patients and families. The RN is responsible for maintaining professional nursing standards and complying with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services (UHS) policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
- Serve as the primary and/or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and patient-care needs.
- Educate patients and families regarding health promotion, disease management, and available resources.
- Safely administer medications in accordance with UHS Hospitals policies and demonstrate appropriate pharmacology knowledge.
- Support effective utilization of staffing, time, supplies, and other resources.
- Maintain compliance with nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
- Participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, Unit Council activities, quality improvement initiatives, and peer review.
- Participate in professional development, continuing nursing education, and mandatory training.
- Incorporate current nursing research and evidence-based practices into patient care.
- Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
- Perform Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator duties when assigned.
- Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Current BLS Certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross.
- Must meet all unit-specific requirements listed in the Compliance Matrix.

- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC, as required by the assigned unit.
