Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

The Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures. This role involves assessing patient conditions, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ICU RN is responsible for responding quickly and accurately to changes in patient conditions or treatment responses, as well as initiating the computerized Plan of Care upon admission.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

• Required: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon; Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
• Preferred: Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN), and Completion of Combat Lifesaver Course (CRASE) training (if travel assignment extends beyond six months).

Experience:

• Required: None.
• Preferred: Previous experience in Medical-Surgical nursing.

Physical Requirements:

The essential physical and sensory functions necessary for successful performance in this position include:

• Auditory ability to detect patient alarms and effectively communicate.
• Visual acuity for observing patient conditions and reading documentation.
• Tactile perception for assessing physical characteristics during patient care.
• Motor coordination for handling medical equipment and performing fine motor tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and frequently assist with the repositioning of patients.
• Occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, employing safe lifting techniques.
• Capacity for continuous walking and standing throughout the shift.

Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment. While protected from outdoor weather conditions, the role may experience variable indoor temperatures. Frequent exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment necessitates adherence to safety protocols and utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE). The healthcare environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond promptly to high-pressure or emergency situations while managing several simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise.
