ICU Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090–$2,200
  • Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and critical care
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: August 24, 2026
  • End Date: November 22, 2026
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend and Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation
  • Unit: 18-bed ICU with a mix of ICU and step-down level patients
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 2:1 for ICU patients and 3:1 for step-down patients
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • At least 2 years of recent ICU or critical care nursing experience; 3 years preferred
  • At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Current AHA ACLS certification
  • Current NIHSS certification
  • Strong neurological assessment skills, including NIHSS and dysphagia screening
  • Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
  • Experience caring for ventilated patients and managing endotracheal tubes (ETTs)
  • Strong critical-thinking, patient assessment, communication, and adaptability skills
  • Applicants must reside outside the applicable 40-mile local radius

ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and step-down level patients.
  • Perform detailed neurological assessments and dysphagia screenings.
  • Interpret telemetry and EKG findings and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
  • Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation and collaborate with respiratory therapy.
  • Initiate and titrate sedatives, paralytics, cardiac medications, vasoactive infusions, insulin, and other critical care therapies according to orders and protocols.
  • Implement sepsis protocols and provide post-ROSC care, including therapeutic hypothermia protocols when indicated.
  • Recognize changes in patient status and respond quickly using sound clinical judgment.
  • Float to step-down level care when needed.
  • Participate in rotating weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Support a collaborative unit culture while maintaining safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.
