Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • 17-bed Level III Trauma Center ICU within a 136-bed hospital that also serves as a Primary Stroke Center and Level II NICU
  • Patient population includes sepsis, ETOH, IVDA, OD, SI, delirium, GI bleeds, strokes with TPA, ARF, COVID, and DKA
  • Surgical patients include general, open abdominal, ortho (total joints), ENT, and OBGYN cases
  • Cardiac/vascular patients include fempops, CABG, EVAR, valves, post cath (radial and femoral), AAA, and amputations
  • No complex neuro cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float within scope of practice to intermediate units (1:3), MSU, ED Boarding (1:4), and Observation units (1:4), with travelers floated first
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and NxStage CRRT equipment

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skilled in vent/trach management, invasive line management (art lines, CVP, Swan-Ganz), drains, chest tubes, foley management, post-surgical recovery, post-cath care, CVVH, and CRRT
  • Cardiovascular and CV surgery experience preferred, along with IABP and Impella experience
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Supported by CNAs (2 during day, 1 at night), receptionist/HUC coverage 0700-1930, charge nurse, PM ICU Supervisor Monday-Friday, phlebotomy for peripheral IV draws, educator, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • ICU-specific pharmacist available during day shifts
  • One day of orientation including badge access and system logins with the educator, a meet and greet with the nurse manager, and the remainder of the shift with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 holiday per contract
  • Schedules are built in 4-week increments with RTO approval going through the manager
  • Scrubs may be any color but no camo, graphics, logos, or designs are permitted
  • More than 2 sick calls may prompt a discussion and possible contract evaluation or termination
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated at least 12 months before becoming eligible for this travel position
