ICU / Progressive Care Registered Nurse

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join a mixed-acuity ICU and Progressive Care unit at Parkview Regional Medical Center. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1.5 years of ICU experience and strong critical-care skills, with the ability to care for both ICU and progressive-care patients.

Travel nursing experience and previous Level 1 or Level 2 facility experience are preferred.

Department Information

• Department: Mixed Acuity ICU / Progressive Care
• Medical ICU Capacity: 24 beds
• Progressive Care Capacity: 12 beds
• Patient Population: ICU and progressive-care patients
• Primary Patient Ratio: Progressive Care 1:3; ICU 1:2
• EMR: EPIC
• Medication System: Pyxis
• Monitoring: Philips heart monitors
• Equipment: EKG machines and Dopplers
• Floating: Required
• Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of ICU nursing experience required
• 2 years of ICU experience preferred
• Valid Indiana RN license required
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Current ACLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Strong medical and critical-care nursing background
• Ability to critically think, prioritize, and adapt to changing patient acuity
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Level 1 or Level 2 facility experience preferred

Patient Population & Clinical Responsibilities

The RN will care for a broad range of critically ill and progressive-care patients, including:

• Sepsis
• Acute and chronic respiratory failure
• Acute and chronic renal failure
• Myocardial infarction
• Pulmonary embolism
• Pneumonia
• Other complex medical and critical-care conditions

Key Responsibilities

• Care for mechanically ventilated patients
• Initiate and titrate IV medications and continuous infusions
• Manage vasopressors
• Manage sedation infusions
• Manage paralytics
• Assist with intubations
• Assist with line placement procedures
• Closely monitor critically ill patients
• Provide care for both ICU and progressive-care patients
• Perform ongoing assessments and recognize changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams
• Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC
• Provide safe, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment

Mixed-Acuity & Floating Requirements

This is a mixed-acuity unit where ICU and progressive-care patients are cared for on the same unit. Travelers will care for both patient populations, although progressive-care assignments are more common than ICU assignments.

Travelers may also float to:

• Other ICU units
• Other Progressive Care units
• Medical-Surgical units

A maximum 1:3 patient ratio will be maintained when floating to other units.

Patient Ratios

• Progressive Care: 1:3, or 1:4 when caring for transfers or medical patients
• ICU: 1:2, or 1:3 when caring for transfers or medical patients
• Floating assignments: Maximum 1:3 ratio

Schedule

• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Traditional weekday scheduling with weekend rotation
• Travelers will never be required to work alone

Orientation & Onboarding

• Initial onboarding through Workforce Development
• Review of facility policies and procedures
• EPIC training and system access
• One day of unit-specific onboarding

Parkview Assignment Requirements & Important Information

• Local travelers are accepted.
• A 12% rate reduction applies to clinicians whose permanent address is within 50 miles.
• The facility may call off or cancel up to 24 hours during a 13-week assignment.
• There are 8 non-billable orientation hours.
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
• Clinicians returning within 12 months of their last worked date are not eligible for non-billable orientation.
• Candidates must disclose any requested time off during the assignment at submission.

Dress Code

• Caribbean Blue scrubs required
• Jackets must be Black, White, or Caribbean Blue
• Short- or long-sleeve underscrubs may be worn
• Underscrub sleeves must be Black or White

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a confident and adaptable ICU RN with strong medical and critical-care experience. The candidate should be comfortable caring for ventilated patients, titrating critical IV medications, assisting with emergency procedures, and managing varying levels of patient acuity. Flexibility to float between ICU, Progressive Care, and Medical-Surgical units is essential.
