Clinical Nurse
Job Summary
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
- Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
- Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors affecting the ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance in revising the plan of care as needed.
- Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team regarding the evaluation of patient care.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex issues, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety considerations.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required for the patient care plan.
- Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care.
- Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with support.
- Aims to achieve goals and objectives within identified time frames or renegotiates with supervisors as necessary.
- Engages in activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively uses communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
- Provides feedback to co-workers.
- Stays informed on public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes complex data to determine care priorities.
- Incorporates appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs into assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into coherent information for communication.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
- Develops relationships with families that empower them to advocate for the patient and their own needs.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Communicates effectively to convey planning updates.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex challenges.
- Research:
- Reads relevant journals and articles that could enhance practice.
- Brings ideas and questions to the team for discussion and applicability assessment.
Required Skills & Experience
- One (1) year of nursing experience.

Education

- Nursing Diploma, or
- ADN or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
