Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift ICU RN requiring 18 months to 2 years of ICU experience and NIHSS certification for a Medical ICU unit.

Details

  • Work in a 10-bed ICU with 4 PCU surge beds in a 109-licensed-bed hospital
  • Advanced Primary Stroke Center with no trauma designation and not a teaching facility
  • Average daily census of 7.3 patients
  • Common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled DM/DKA, minor trauma, ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:2-3 depending on acuity, often a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients
  • CNA support available on dayshift only at 1:10 ratio
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required at minimum every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within Stanly to Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, ED holds, and Behavioral Health (med pass only), as well as to other facilities within Region 1 as needed within scope of practice
  • EMR: Epic
  • IV pump: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Stroke experience and NIH stroke assessments required
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Experience with arterial lines, CVPs, and critical care drips required
  • Experience with chest tubes, PIV starts, TNK administration, vent management, trach care, and NGT placement required
  • Experience with drain and tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley insertion/management required
  • Experience with PCA pumps and wound care required
  • Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs required
  • Experience managing medication drips including critical care gtts, cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Monitor bedside and central telemetry for the unit
  • Provide intubation support with Hospitalist as first call, followed by CRNA and ED
  • Night RN will give patient report to the rounding Intensivist each weekday morning
  • Contact Virtual Critical Care (VCC) for urgent situations overnight
  • Supported by House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, 24/7 RT and Hospitalist coverage, and dayshift IV/VAT team and phlebotomy
  • Unit culture is teamwork-oriented with an emphasis on open communication and constructive feedback
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2-3 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color is navy with white or navy undershirts only; no t-shirts or crocs allowed
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Free parking available
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered
  • Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
